Latest technology in comprehensive heartcut multidimensional gas chromatography (CH/C MDGC) involves short pulse transfer from the first to the second dimensional separation with rapid cycle times. This enhances separation power and fastens the analysis time to obtain comprehensive chemical profile of food samples containing several hundred volatile compounds. We are developing a simple CH/C MDGC system employing a single microfluidic device, called Deans Switch, without using any cryogenic devices avoiding use of carbondioxide. This project provides useful analytical system and analysis approaches for high confidence profiling of volatiles in food and the database construction, making a valuable contribution to high resolution separation research.
